A conservatory-trained cellist, Haimovitz has also been known to saw the night away for beer-soaked audiences at the Tin Angel and CBGB. He still plays Bach and Brahms, but is committed to, as he puts it, “seeing music thrive,” cultivating new composers and new audiences at coffeehouses and bars. His program for Kimmel’s spunky Fresh Ink series looks to be both entertaining and challenging, a perfectly decent formula for an engaging and provocative live music experience.
