Matt Haimovitz & Uccello at San Antone Café & Concerts. “Meeting of the Spirits,” a CD by cellist Haimovitz, the Uccello group and featured guests, was nominated for a Grammy for classical crossover album. Performer, composer and educator Haimovitz has been crossing over for a long time, playing classical and other music in venues ranging from international concert halls to punk clubs. The big cello crew is on its way to Austin to open for Bob Geldof’s SXSW keynote address and play a couple other SXSW gigs, but will stop at San Antone to perform selections from “Meeting of the Spirits,” new arrangements of jazz classics with maximum cello power.
